Linda Lopez for Senate Pro Tem
November 8, 2012

The New Mexico Senate will select a new Senate Pro Tem following Tim Jennings’ loss on Tuesday.

Senator Linda Lopez is in the running for that position. We think Senator Lopez would serve New Mexico well as the Senate Pro Tem.

Senator Lopez has been willing to fight for what is right. She is in sync with a large number of recently elected Democratic senators.

She was the only Senator to publicly call for Governor Susana Martinez to fire Keith Gardner. Senator Lopez cited Gardner’s abusive conduct towards a young female lobbyist with the Albuquerque Public Schools and Gardner’s demeaning tirade against Senator Jennings.

Senator Lopez, through New Mexico Promises PAC went to bat for Senator Jennings to help fight back against the unprecedented onslaught by the governor against Jennings.

She also stepped up by filing a complaint with the New Mexico Attorney General’s office regarding the apparent misuse of government equipment and personnel by the Public Education Department in order to assist in a political assault on teacher’s unions.

Senator Lopez also helped to expose the administration’s pay-to-play Dirty Downs deal during confirmation hearings of state fair commissioners held by the Senate Rules Committee.

She will make an excellent Senate Pro tem.
