Breaking News: Louisiana Trip Update
January 30, 2013

No. This is not about the documents related to the hunting trip taken by Chuck Franco and two state police members of the governor’s security detail to Louisiana. You know those documents that the New Mexico Attorney General ordered the Martinez administration to produce to us over a month ago. We are still waiting for those.

We have uncovered documents that show that Martinez has hired at least one but possibly two more close family members of one of the two state cops that accompanied Franco on the trip.

Christine Tabet, one of Ruben Maynes’ sisters was hired by Susana Martinez to work in the governor’s mansion sometime between late August and the end of September. Tabet’s name does not appear on any state databases either for employees or contractors. She was hired during the time that the New Mexico Attorney General’s office requested records from the administration related to this hunting the trip.

Around that same time, Tabet was summonsed to court on theft charges. According to the docket for Metro Court, Tabet, who mostly lived in southern New Mexico and Albuquerque, provided a Santa Fe address to the court. It is not known if Martinez was aware of the charges against Tabet.

We have learned, but have yet to confirm, that another of Maynes’ sisters, Elaine Rosenbloom, was also hired to work in the governor’s mansion. She also does not appear on any of the state employee or contractor databases. We are seeking additional documentation to confirm this possible hire.

As previously reported by ISPAC, Maynes’ wife, Donna, was hired to work as an high paid executive assistant in the governor’s office’s just a couple of months after we requested an investigation by the US Attorney’s office into the awarding of the racino contract to the Downs at Albuquerque. The US Attorney’s office turned the investigation over to the FBI following our request.

If any part of this hunting trip was arranged by the owners of the Downs then Martinez could face charges similar to the recently indicted Ray Nagin, the former mayor of New Orleans. Providing jobs to the family members of witnesses is something that must be thoroughly looked into by law enforcement. Buying silence with jobs certainly would be illegal.

It's also something members of the administration seem willing to do.
